Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
