The Substance
Coralie Fargeat's daring satire addresses the tyranny of feminine aesthetics as well as the dreaded aspects of growing older. The veteran actress delivers a masterful portrayal in the role of Elisabeth, an aging film star forced into starring in a workout series on television. Forced aside due to her deceitful superior Harvey, she undergoes a secretive and gruesome treatment known as this experimental method. This creates a younger clone named Sue, resulting in a progressively parasitic dynamic between them. October 17th, the streaming service Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10
This suspenseful thriller stars Knightley as Laura, a top-notch writer who takes a break from reporting on world issues to board a luxury cruise with an ailing Norwegian shipping heiress and charitable figure, her partner, as well as other extremely wealthy passengers. But after an enigmatic female goes overboard one night and everyone denies she ever existed, the reporter's sleuthing skills kick in. Streaming currently, on Netflix
This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director pushes his directorial skills in this nifty ghostly tale filmed completely through the eyes of the spirit. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the filming device – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The teen shows signs of aware of the supernatural presence, and it seems defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage embraces his cult stardom in this autobiographical spoof. He plays a self-obsessed film star playing himself who accepts a million-dollar gig to attend a celebration at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi Gutierrez. Contacted by government spies to spy on the alleged criminal, his unique performing skills proves useful. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, on Channel 4
The Black Phone
The director's locked-room horror stands strong despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, a series of child abductions has made the children frightened. When Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a basement, he fears a fatal end. But the disconnected phone in the room repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators providing assistance, as the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen could save him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, on Film4
The Spy Mystery

He receives a mission to discover a traitor within their ranks out of five possibilities – one of whom is his spouse. Each performer are experts of calm composure, leading to a delightful mental battle of truth or lie develops. Additional actors join in the smart espionage amusement.
